The hecklers were polite including ubiquitous wolf whistles for Jo Brand.

Every performance had me laughing out loud though highlights for me had to be Kevin Eldon who’s very amusing songs, accompanied by acoustic guitar had the audience in tears of laughter, myself included.  A song about Potholing was funny but his whacky impressions of how a CD sounds when it gets stuck were truly hilarious.

Lee Mack is known as both a stand up comedian and a TV comedy actor; and his impression of how Scousers sound like dolphins was a great finale to a very slick performance.

Lee Mack returned after the interval with Catherine Tate for a sketch that has only previously been performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  “The Old People” had Tate & Mack sitting in comfy armchairs watching television.  With Lee Mack repetitively forgetting names with every sentence he started and Catherine Tate in the guise of her now famous ‘Gran’ character from her own television show hurling foul abuse at Mack as he sat obliviously muttering to himself.  This was the highlight for me.  It sounds immature but there’s something very funny about a very old lady swearing at the top of her voice.

Sean Locke ended the show with a very funny performance including an animated story of how Madonna scurries around the stage like a crab; and how elated and then scared he would be if, by some chance, he had the opportunity to have sex with the Queen of Pop!

April Fools was an event in aid of a great charity, Mencap.  The show was to help raise money and awareness for learning disabilities. The show boasted a great line-up of British talent plus the very funny dry one-liners of Canadian Stewart Francis.

There are 1.5 million people with a learning disability in the UK and Mencap is the voice of learning disability. Everything they do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, their families and carers.

April Fools in aid of Mencap

Catherine Tate and Chris Addison join the already incredible bill of comedy greats for April Fools in aid of learning disability charity Mencap.

Hosted by Jo Brand and Miranda Hart the night will see performances from Lee Mack, Harry Hill, Sean Lock, Al Murray, Stewart Francis, Catherine Tate, Chris Addison and Lucy Porter. Taking place at HMV Hammersmith Apollo on 1 April.

The multi award winning Catherine Tate’s vast acting credits include the BBC series, The Catherine Tate Show, which showcased her chameleon-like talent for character transformation. In addition to playing ‘Donna Noble’ (the Doctor’s companion) in the 4th series of BBC’s Doctor Who, Catherine also co-stars in the feature films: Gulliver’s Travels; Monte Carlo, Mrs Ratcliffe’s Revolution and Starter for Ten.

Chris Addison has made numerous hugely successful TV appearances including stints in The Thick of It and Skins and the satirical movie In The Loop. As well as a career in front of the camera, Chris has written comedy for the screen and perfected his sharp humorous wit to be one of the best stand ups going.
