Outnumbered Series 3

I was immediately drawn to the BBC comedy Outnumbered when it first aired a couple of years ago, excellent writing from Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin and stand out performances from the whole cast proved to be a special and winning formula, catapulting the comedy series into the spotlight and winning multiple awards.

I don’t think that I have ever witnessed a TV comedy that comes as close as Outnumbered to depicting real life with a young family and the series presents as many cringe worthy embarrassing memories of bringing up children as it does genuinely funny moments.

In sreies three the winning formula remains in place and we are treated to six episodes featuring a now slightly older family making its way through the every day trials and tribulations of life.

The excitement that soon turns to disappointment and boredom on a day trip to London is surely an experience that any parent can relate to.

Hopefully not too many will have shared the funny moments like Karen and her mother entering a toilet cubicle together and the child exiting, exposing her mother still sitting on the lavatory, clearly visible to the whole street.

There is a similar awkward situation when the pair are again caught desperate for the toilet, only to be confronted with a ‘disabled’ toilet and Sue has to explain to Karen that desperation is a form of disability.

When they are interrupted by a knock on the door by a genuine disabled woman in a wheelchair the embarrassment as real as Sue puts on an exaggerated limp as she leaves the cubicle.

Outnumbered series three contains all the things that we all face on a daily basis, putting its own hilarious spin on serious situations while not avoiding the issues.

There are chapters involving the internet including the downloading and distribution of an image of Jake’s teachers breasts, having to look after the children when you have arranged to play tennis with friends, eating out with the family, trying to tidy the house for prospective buyers to look round and Hospitals.

Outnumbered Series 3 is a brilliant funny observation of family life, too real to be true!
