Steve Coogan as Pauline Calf, Live on Saturday Zoo
is a well respected actor, impressionist, comedian and successful executive producer.
He got his first break over 20 years ago as an impressionist on the political satire Spitting Image while working the club circuit as a stand-up comedian.
His first big break came when he teamed up with Chris Morris and Armando Iannucci in the radio show On The Hour, which became known as The Day Today when it made the big leap from Radio 4 to BBC television. Coogan’s main character in the show was Alan Partridge, a fumbling idiot of a sports presenter who quite obviously knew very little about sport.
When The Day Today finished its successful run, Coogan decided to continue to use the Alan Partidge character, first in his own mock chat show – Knowing Me, Knowing You…with Alan Partridge, and then following Partridge’s demise from prime time television host to a morning how on BBC Radio Norfolk in I’m Alan Partridge.
In 1999, Coogan moved into a new field by setting up Baby Cow Productions with his partner, Henry Normal. As executive producers, Coogan and Normal are responsible for such comedy shows as The Mighty Boosh, Nighty Night and Marion and Geoff.
Coogan has also starred in some successful films, most notably as Factory Records supremo Tony Wilson, in the excellent 24 Hour Party People.
But this year Steve Coogan is returning to stand-up comedy with his best loved character with the tour, Steve Coogan Is Alan Partridge and Other Less Successful Characters. Steve Coogan Tickets are on sale now.
Here is Steve Coogan as one of his many lovable characters, Pauline Calf. Pauline and her brother Paul regularly appear in Coogan’s live shows, so expect them to make an appearance along with Alan Partridge on the new 2008 tour.
